This is an interview with Karen Hess, Coordinator of the Oklahoma Drug Task Force and Jarrad Wagner, associate professor of forensic toxicology and former FBI chemist, regarding a hands-on law enforcement training opportunity held at the Oklahoma State University/Tulsa Police Department Forensic Sciences building. This Tulsa facility is uniquely equipped in Oklahoma to host demonstrations of real methamphetamine cooking processes in a controlled environment for the purpose of training law enforcement agents.
Due to my professional relationships with the interviewees, I was able to secure an interview to discuss the importance of such training in light of the alarming proliferation of clandestine methamphetamine labs in Oklahoma. I also obtained unparalleled access to capture footage of the cooking process.
Challenges included taking care to avoid providing instructional footage to the public as well as to exempt footage of certain participants.
